Depending on your health plan and your doctor's recommendation, your Nuvibody product may be reimbursable through your Flexible Spending Account or Health Savings Account. Here's how the process works.
How FSA/HSA reimbursement works.
FSA and HSA funds can be used for purchases your plan administrator deems eligible. For wellness devices, most plans require a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) from a licensed healthcare provider before approving reimbursement.
Eligibility is determined by your plan administrator and your doctor. The best first step is to ask your doctor whether an LMN makes sense for your situation, and to check with your plan on their reimbursement policy.
What is a Letter of Medical Necessity?
A Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) is a short document from your doctor or healthcare provider confirming that a purchase is appropriate for your personal health needs. It typically includes:
- Your healthcare provider's recommendation
- The reason the device is appropriate for you
- The recommended duration of use
Most plan administrators accept an LMN as the basis for reimbursement. Your existing GP or primary care provider can issue one, it's a routine request.
Three steps.
Step 1 — Talk to your doctor. Ask your doctor whether an LED light therapy device is appropriate for your needs and whether they'd be willing to provide a Letter of Medical Necessity. They'll let you know if it's the right fit.
Step 2 — Receive the letter. Your provider will typically send this via your patient portal or by post. It should be on letterhead and include their signature and license number.
Step 3 — Submit to your FSA/HSA plan. Log in to your FSA or HSA account portal and navigate to "Submit a Claim" or "Reimbursement." Upload your Nuvibody order confirmation or receipt along with your Letter of Medical Necessity. Processing typically takes 5–10 business days.
Bought it already? You may still be able to claim.
FSA and HSA plans generally allow reimbursement for purchases made within the current plan year. If you purchased your Nuvibody mask this year, you may still be able to obtain an LMN and submit for reimbursement, subject to your plan's terms. Your order confirmation email serves as your receipt.
