EMF Radiation in Red Light Therapy Devices: What You Need to Know

We sometimes get questions about the effects of the electromagnetic field (EMF) in our red light therapy lamps. Electronic devices, such as red light therapy devices, emit an electromagnetic field as a byproduct of the energy they use and generate. You may wonder if it is healthy or safe to stand close to a red light therapy device, or if there is any danger from the EMFs that the device produces.

This article is intended to inform you about EMFs, their safety, and the extensive measures we at Nuvibody have taken to protect you from unwanted EMF exposure.

What exactly is EMF?

Electromagnetic fields (EMFs) surround us all the time but are invisible to the human eye. EMFs can be both natural and man-made. For example; the earth has its own magnetic fields and frequencies, such as the magnetic field that points compasses north. Artificial or unnatural EMFs are those that are created by humans - think microwaves and cell phones.

EMFs emit energy that is emitted in a sine wave pattern that oscillates back and forth in peaks and valleys. Electrical devices emit electromagnetic fields at low frequencies, meaning the wavelengths are long, while x-ray machines generate higher frequencies and faster wavelengths.

Electromagnetic fields consist of both electric fields and magnetic fields. An electric field exists wherever there is a positive or negative electric charge, whether the device is turned on or not. Electric fields are measured in volts.

Magnetic fields are created when a current flows (when the device is switched on). The higher the current, the stronger the magnetic field. The density of magnetic fields is measured in microtesla or millitesla.

In electrical devices like red light therapy device we consider both electric and magnetic fields together resulting in electromagnetic wave which takes place on radio wave (RF). You can see in the diagram above that radio wave refers to a specific range of electromagnetic waves per second.

Our LED therapy lights have a massive light output - the most powerful on the market today - which is great news if you want to harness the power of red and near infrared light to promote healing and wellness. A logical follow-up question with legitimate concern is about the electromagnetic field that accompanies this output.

Why are there concerns about EMF?

Electromagnetic fields can be characterized by low-frequency wavelengths or high-frequency wavelengths (look again at the image above).

Low-frequency and high-frequency electromagnetic fields affect your body in different ways. Higher frequency wavelengths carry so much energy that they sometimes break bonds between molecules, damaging cells or DNA. High-frequency EMFs are called ionizing radiation.

Lower frequency wavelengths cannot break chemical bonds between molecules and are therefore called non-ionizing radiation. Red light therapy lamps are an example of a low frequency electromagnetic field that emits non-ionizing radiation.

According to the World Health Organization, low-frequency electromagnetic fields pose less of a threat to your body than higher-frequency electromagnetic fields. There is little convincing evidence that they can cause harm or adverse side effects in humans, such as damage to DNA or cells.

However, the long-term effects of low-frequency electromagnetic fields have not yet been properly studied. For example, there is no evidence that there is a causal link between the radiofrequency electromagnetic field of a mobile phone and adverse health effects. However , research is still being conducted by the RIVM into whether exposure to low-frequency electromagnetic fields can cause fatigue, dizziness, loss of concentration or sleep disorders.

With a lack of compelling evidence, it is of course prudent to take precautions to limit exposure to EMFs, even if the EMFs emitted by red light therapy lamps are at the lower end of the spectrum.

All Electrical Devices Create EMF - All of them.

The most important concept to remember is that every electrical device creates some form of EMF as a byproduct of using electricity. All of them. Every single one of them. It is literally impossible for a device to have electrons flowing and not create EMF. What is the most important difference in all of this is how you limit the EMF reading and protect against the radiation. While you can’t stop EMF creation, you can stop it from spreading.

The measures Nuvibody takes against EMF Exposure

We have taken the utmost precautions when designing our Nuvibody red light therapy lamps to protect you from unnecessary exposure to EMFs.

You can be assured that when you use our low EMF red light therapy lamps, you will not expose yourself to unwanted EMFs because we have integrated advanced components into our devices to act as a barrier.

All of our red light therapy lamps use 'EMF shields' which prevent the LED drivers, LED circuit board and power cables from emitting EMF radiation. 'EMF shielding' is the process of reducing the electromagnetic field in an area by shielding it with conductive material.

We have ZERO EMF emissions at the recommended treatment distance of 10 to 15 cm.

EMFs are strongest close to the source of the charge or the charged conductor, but the strength decreases rapidly as the distance from the source of the charge increases. This means that if you perform your daily red light therapy at a distance of 10 to 15 cm from the device, you will receive the maximum benefits of red and near infrared light waves, without any exposure to EMFs.

Our Conclusion

Our commitment is to bring you the most advanced, powerful red light therapy lamps on the market, while protecting you from EMFs. Low to almost no EMF emissions are always ideal.

Nuvibody devices are some of the most technologically advanced devices available. Everything we do is based on science and safety to ensure you achieve outstanding results with this powerful light-based healing modality.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What are the symptoms of EMF sensitivity?

EMF radiation causes sleep disorders such as insomnia, headaches, depression and depressive symptoms, exhaustion and fatigue.

2. How can you protect yourself from EMF?

Let your body breathe. Don't use laptops and tablets on your lap. Don't keep your phone in your pocket. Don't hold your phone to your ear when making a call. Use a wired headset instead.
